Paint protection film and ceramic coating for Mountain House, CA. New cars, long commutes, and a lot of Teslas, fitted at our own shop in Oakdale.
Mountain House is a young town, and a lot of the cars in its driveways are young too. Many of them cross the Altamont every weekday on the I-580 or the I-205, and freeway miles at that pace are what put stone chips in a front bumper and the leading edge of a hood. On a car that is a year or two old, the chips are usually the first thing that makes it look older than it is.
The good news with a newer car is that you can stop that before it starts. That is what most of our Mountain House work is: protecting a car while the paint is still perfect, rather than fixing it later.

Paint protection film is a clear layer fitted over the paint. Rocks and road debris hit the film instead of the paintwork, and light marks in it heal in the sun. From a couple of feet away it does not show.
We fit STEK film at the shop. A full front covers the hood, both fenders, the front bumper, the headlights, the mirrors and the grille, which is where commuting damage lands. It starts from $1,500 for a car, and every full film package includes a lifetime ceramic coating at no extra cost. Some owners go further, to a track pack that adds the rockers and pillars, or the whole car.

Mountain House has more electric cars than almost anywhere around us, most of them Teslas, and we fit film on Teslas regularly. The front end of a Model Y or Model 3 takes the same freeway hits as anything else, and owners who keep the car tend to want it protected early. The usual job is a full front in film with a ceramic coating over the rest of the car, so the whole thing rinses clean. More on paint protection film for Teslas.

The other half of protection is what the weather and the water do. Summers are long and hot, and the groundwater around here is hard enough that sprinkler overspray and driveway washes leave spots that bake on in the sun.
A ceramic coating bonds to the paint and leaves a slick surface that sheds water and dirt, so a rinse does what used to take scrubbing. We use System X, with manufacturer warranties from three years to lifetime, and every coating starts with paint correction so it seals in a clean finish. Coating handles the sun, the spots and the dirt. Film handles the rocks.

Film and coating go on in a controlled bay at 604 Hedburg Way in Oakdale, with clean air, proper light and time to cure. Neither is a driveway job.
The drive is about 45 to 55 minutes. Most film jobs are one day and most coatings one to two, so it is one trip to drop off and one to collect. Tell us your schedule and we will plan around it.

Yes. Film and coating both work best on paint that has not been chipped or swirled yet, because they protect what is there rather than hide what is not. Many owners book within the first few weeks.
It depends on how the car is driven. For a daily freeway commute, film on the front end is the part that stops chips, and a coating makes the rest easy to keep clean. If the car mostly stays local, a coating alone is often enough, and we will say so.
